  • A T-shirt (T shirt or tee) is a shirt which is pulled on over the head to cover most of a person's torso. A T-shirt is usually buttonless and collarless, with a round neck and short sleeves.

Hoodoo Man Blues

Hoodoo Man Blues

Hoodoo Man Blues is not only Junior Well's initial LP appearance, it is damn near the first LP by a Chicago blues band. Chess and a few other labels had issued 45's by Muddy Waters, Sonny Boy Williamson, Howling Wolf, Jimmy Reed, Elmore James, etc. but virtually no one had tried to capture the Chicago blues sound free of limitations of juke-box/airplay promotion. Delmark is proud of the part Hoodoo Man Blues played in the popularization of the real Chicago blues and of Junior Wells. But the credit belongs to Junior, Buddy, Jack and Billy - they made the music. We just sat and dug it.
''One of the truly classic blues albums of the 1960s, and one of the first to fully document the smoky ambience of a night at a West Side nightspot in the superior acoustics of a recording studio. Wells just set up with his usual cohorts - guitarist Buddy Guy (billed as 'Friendly Chap' on first vinyl pressings), bassist Jack Myers, and drummer Billy Warren - and proceeded to blow up a storm, bringing an immediacy to Snatch It Back and Hold It, You Don't Love Me, Chitlin con Carne, and the rest of the tracks that is absolutely mesmerizing. - Bill Dahl, ALL MUSIC GUIDE.

This 1965 album is where vocalist and harmonica player Junior Wells comes into his own. An early collaboration with Buddy Guy, the two of them sum up the 1960s funk-rock-blues that lay ahead. Hoodoo Man Blues inspired Paul Butterfield, Eric Clapton, and a host of other musician-fans. Wells and Guy don't shy from creating James Brown-funkified blues, or from putting a rock edge to their blues; but neither do they shy from traditional blues. Their version of "Good Morning Little School Girl" is a proper update--still menacing, with less of a country blues feel. Also not to be missed is the instrumental workout "Chitlin Con Carne." --Robert Gordon

Girls' Generation Helps Support Earthquake Victims Through Niigata Show

-->Twelve popular music groups from Korea like Girls' Generation and KARA appeared at Niigata's Tohokuden Big Swan Stadium on August 20 for the "K-POP All-Star Live in Niigata" show. 43,000 fans were excited to attend the first large scale K-Pop festival to be held in this area. With the intention of aiding those affected, victims of the recent earthquake disaster in Japan were invited to the festival.

The nine member group Girls' Generation performed four songs including their hit single "Gee". All of the fans' eyes were glued to the girls' dance that was synchronized down to their breathing. Each time a member's face showed up on the jumbotron, cheers would reverberate around the stadium. Tiffany, Yuri, and Sooyoung were in charge of hosting the show. Sooyoung, who is proficient in Japanese, greeted the fans by saying, "Thank you to everyone who has given Girls' Generation and KARA a lot of love this past year (since debuting)." She also played a big part in translating the other two MCs' Korean speech.

The festival closed with the song "Arirang", where all 62 members who participated in the event gathered together to perform the piece.

At the venue t-shirts and other charity goods were sold. All proceeds and even ticket revenue were set aside to be donated. Also, with thoughts of "becoming the strength of children", around 300 junior high school students who are taking refuge in Niigata from the earthquake were invited to the festival. Prior to the beginning of the festival, everyone gathered to hold a minute of silent prayers for those lost in the disaster.

Girls' Generation's Taeyeon also left a message saying, "I hope even for a little bit that we can give those affected by the disaster a little bit of comfort through our music."

The Xander Shirt, From Paul

The Xander Shirt, From Paul

He moved into town when I was a junior and he was a sophomore. We instantly became friends. We had so much in common, and we taught each other so much. I gave him bowling and Fudd's veggie burgers (before they actually started serving garden burger patties), and advice about girls. He gave me infinite introductions to new music, confidence, and advice about boys.

I had a crush on him from the beginning, and I suspect he had one on me early on as well. But we did the friend thing. Until one day we were standing outside Blockbuster (what is it with me and Blockbuster?) and he kissed me. Just a sweet peck on the lips, but a kiss nonetheless.

We never got together - we had shitty timing if nothing else, but we always knew we both wanted to get together. When I went to college, his family moved back to Minnesota. We lost touch.

I got a call from him my senior year in college. I was at a bar with my then-boyfriend, and it was loud. We haven't talked since, but I think of him at least a couple times a week. And every time I wear this shirt.

I loved this shirt, and he knew it. He left town the day before I left for college, and when I got home from wherever I'd been that day, this shirt had been wrapped and left by the back door. It doesn't matter that it's huge on me or that Xander was wearing it in the opening of Buffy in 1996. It's one of those things I will never get rid of.
